Non-Verbal Reasoning Course (for Year 5)
What is Non-Verbal Reasoning?
Non-Verbal Reasoning is the ability to solve problems by interpreting images rather than words. Skills include recognising ways in which shapes and diagrams can be manipulated by changing their size, orientation and pattern.
Which schools test Non-Verbal Reasoning on their entrance exams?
Buckinghamshire County Council schools, Slough Consortium schools, Henrietta Barnett Girls’ school, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’, City of London Boys’, Mill Hill County, St Paul’s Girls’ and St Michael’s Catholic Grammar. This list is a guide only. You should research the schools in which you are interested.
Does my child need Non-Verbal Reasoning lessons?
Once you are sure the schools you are applying for require Non-Verbal Reasoning, we suggest:
- Independent practice using books and/or online platforms.
- Booking one of our 3-day courses (above) and any revision courses during the summer holidays.
Courses February and April 2020:
Non-Verbal Reasoning Course for Year 5 students in a short course of 9 hours spread over 3 ‘morning sessions’
Option A) Spring Half-term (19th, 20th and 21st of February 9:30am – 12:30pm each day)
Option B) Easter holiday (14th, 15th and 16th of April 9:30am to 12:30pm each day)
Venue: To be confirmed.
Cost: £219 (Includes new books and other resources)
In 3 x 3 hour sessions:
- Familiarisation with types of NVR assessments.
- Strategies on several types of visual problem solving.
- Short practice exercises with instant feedback.
- Daily ‘timed’ assessments, marked and returned.
- Puzzles and activities using multi-link cubes for spatial reasoning.
- Hints and tips for exam technique.
- Workbooks for the children to keep.
