During the Summer holidays 2019 we are running some short courses for children who are in Year 5 at school. You may book as many as you wish without fear of repetition.
Ideal for a boost in Writing and other Literacy skills.
Each course will be taught by a specialist English teacher. It will run for five hours over two days (2 x 2.5 hour sessions)
The course will develop the following skills:
- Ideas for writing
- Vocabulary building
- Speech and language fluency
- Rules of writing; spelling, punctuation and grammar. There will be up to eight children in the class.
English Reading and Comprehension
This course develops skills in arguably the most important aspect of education: reading and understanding. The class will read planned material and discuss themes, vocabulary, language devices and more. The children will also have a chance to practice both standard comprehension questions and multiple-choice style questions and receive feedback on how to improve.
This course will involve a high level of reading, challenging comprehension tasks and advanced writing technique. This course is suitable for those who need an extra challenge in English. It is also a taster for the type of work that is covered in Year 6 Independent school exams and Henrietta Barnett second round exams.
This course focuses the key areas of Verbal Reasoning tested in the GL style (New in 2019) 11+ exams. Strategies and techniques are taught and discussed. Children will have a chance to practise these strategies in the lesson.
With 11+ exam style content, skills will be developed in the following areas:
Shape and space
Data and probability.
Children will have a chance to practise exam style questions and get feedback on how to improve.
In this course the children will take on more advanced problem solving. This course is suitable for those who need an extra challenge in maths. It is also a ‘taster’ for the type of maths that is covered in year 6 and in both grammar and independent school entrance exams.
Please note: Should your child be hoping to gain a place at QE Boys’ or Henrietta Barnett schools this course will provide the right level of challenge.
Non-Verbal Reasoning Revision
This session is an opportunity to take a practice non-verbal reasoning test and immediately review the test and get feedback from a teacher. The session will also include other practice questions and hints and tips on exam technique. This is suitable for the Buckinghamshire County Council entrance exam and many independent schools entrance exams. The children will have a 45 minute supervised lunch break.
